Sludge Separator

RPS takes up less than 10% of the floor area in comparison with a conventional installation and is very easy to install.

RPS is a highly efficient separator with a very high sludge separation capacity. Particles with a low precipitation rate are trapped and fall out with other particles in the compression zone.

RPS has very few moving parts and is easy to maintain, which ensures low operation and maintenance costs. It is made of plastic and is therefore corrosion resistant.

RPS is cost-effective and capable of operating entirely automatically. It also has an integrated cleaning zone for the rotating lamella.

Rotating lamellar separator

Sedimentation is the most common and most widely proven method for separating solid particles from fluids. It is used in almost all sewage treatment plants and process industries.

With Recyclean´s rotating lamellar separator you get a sedimentation system that reduces space requirements by 90% or more in comparison with a sedimentation basin. Naturally this also reduces overall costs for the installation.

The rotating lamellar separator is also easy to maintain, which ensures low operating costs and maintenance costs.

The total sedimentation area is equal to the collective area of the sloping, parallel lamella projected onto the horizontal plane. This means that up to 10 square metres of sedimentation area can be obtained for each square metre of floor or ground space required for the installation. In most cases the surface loads that would normally be used when designing a sedimentation basin can be used without adjustment for Recyclean´s rotating lamellar separator. The total projected area of the lamellar separator replaces the area of the sedimentation basin.

The capacity of the rotating lamellar separator depends on the total sedimentation area and the surface load. The surface load specifies the flow per square metre of effective sedimentation area per hour in operation. The surface treatment is determined by the sedimentation characteristics of the suspension in question and is normally within the range 0.5-2.5m³/m².h. The inflow and outflow rates are important secondary parameters. The size of the equipment determines the bath size and surface load.


The flow across the lamella is determined entirely by the sedimentation rate of the particles. This means that since the lamella normally have a spacing of 25mm and the angle of the lamella is 60°, the sedimentation depth in this case is just 50mm.

If the flow speed across the lamella is 5-10m/h and the rotation speed of the lamella is 40m/h it has been shown that even particles that are not normally likely to precipitate will be caught up by the 60° angled lamelle and be carried with other particles along the lamella into the compression zone.

This is largely because the particle is not influenced by any other forces than its own weight and because the rotation of the of the lamellar assembly gives rise to a force that carries the particle towards the lamella, since the speed of the circulating fluid is slightly less than the speed of the rotating lamella.

Operating principle

The unique advantage of Recyclean´s rotating lamellar separator lies in the special method of distributing flow, which guarantees that all the lamellar surface experience the same hydraulic load. The distribution of flow is essential for the effective utilisation of the rotating lamellar assembly.

The fluid to be cleaned is fed into the rotating lamellar separator through the intake pipe. The liquid is fed in from the side, then flows downwards outside the casing, into the rotating lamellar assembly from below, and from there towards the centre of the separator. During its passage through the lamellar assembly the solid particles are deposited onto the lamella and travel against the flow towards the sludge trap. It should be noted here that, in contrast to pipe separators and other simple plate separators, there is no risk of the deposited material being disturbed by the inflow of liquid.
